NCISM Minimum Standards for Undergraduate Siddha Colleges

NCISM Minimum Essential Standards for Undergraduate Siddha Colleges: Infrastructure and Functionality 🏛️

Category: Siddha Medical Research |

The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) mandates Minimum Essential Standards (MES) for Undergraduate (BSMS) Siddha Colleges and their attached teaching hospitals to ensure high-quality education and clinical training. These standards, particularly for infrastructure, including land, constructed area, and hospital functionality, are scaled according to the annual student intake capacity.

🏞️ Land Requirement

The minimum land required for a Siddha college and its attached hospital must generally be a single contiguous piece of land. However, relaxation is available for smaller plots or two plots in specific regions such as Tier I & II cities, North-eastern states, Hilly areas, and notified tribal areas.

Land Requirement Based on Intake Capacity (in acres)
Intake Capacity (Seats) Minimum Land Requirement Relaxed Requirement (Specific Areas)
Up to 60 3.0 acres 2.5 acres
61 - 100 5.0 acres 3.5 acres
101 - 150 7.0 acres 5.0 acres
151 - 200 9.0 acres 6.0 acres

🏗️ Constructed Area Requirement

The NCISM specifies distinct minimum built-up areas for the College’s academic and administrative blocks and the Attached Hospital’s clinical block, based on intake capacity.

Constructed Area Requirements (Approximate sq. meters)
Intake Capacity (Seats) Minimum College Constructed Area Minimum Attached Hospital Constructed Area
Up to 60 2,715 sq.m 2,575 sq.m
61 - 100 4,750 sq.m 3,800 sq.m
101 - 150 6,785 sq.m 5,300 sq.m
151 - 200 Proportionately Higher Proportionately Higher

🏥 Hospital OPD Attendance

To ensure students receive adequate clinical exposure, the attached teaching hospital must maintain a minimum average daily Out-Patient Department (OPD) attendance corresponding to the student intake capacity.

Minimum Average Daily OPD Patients
Intake Capacity (Students per year) Minimum Average Daily OPD Patients
60 120 patients
100 200 patients
150 300 patients
200 400 patients

These stringent infrastructure and operational standards are regularly monitored by the NCISM’s Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARBISM) to ensure institutions meet the necessary threshold for providing quality Siddha medical education.
