— As Canada pushes ahead with a vision for a more unified and resilient national economy under the Federal One Canadian Economy strategy and the Building Canada Act, Calgary’s leadership is advocating for a critical infrastructure project to be placed at the forefront of national priorities: the Prairie Economic Gateway.

A a collaborative initiative between the City of Calgary and Rocky View County, aiming to establish Alberta’s first major interprovincial trade and manufacturing hub. Located along the border of southeast Calgary and Rocky View County, the port is poised to play a strategic role in strengthening Canada's domestic and international supply chains.
“This nation-building project is ready to proceed as a public-private partnership, offering immediate and long-term benefits for Alberta and for Canada,” said Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek in an August 1 letter to federal Energy Minister Tim Hodgson and Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc.
Mayor Gondek has urged Prime Minister Mark Carney to consider including the Prairie Economic Gateway on a national projects list. She argues that the inland port aligns perfectly with the goals of the Building Canada Act, which seeks to modernize infrastructure, stimulate innovation, and support economic growth across provinces.
